Sudhir Choudhrie is an entrepreneur who has succeeded in building the business of his dreams. Sudhir is also a philanthropist with a passion for giving back to society and improving the lives of others. He shares his insights on what it takes to start your own business, how he built one from scratch, and why you should too.
Sudhir Choudhrie is a man who has always followed his heart. He left India with only ₹10 in his pocket and a dream to make it big. On the way, he faced many stumbling blocks, but he never gave up on his dreams. Today, Sudhir runs a billion dollar empire and is the person responsible for creating thousands of jobs. He believes in creating a legacy and giving back to society, which is why he created The Choudhrie Foundation with a vision to improve lives by using philanthropy as a catalyst for social change.
Sudhir grew up in a middle-class family and was raised by his grandparents because his parents divorced when he was very young. He is one of three children and says that his humble beginnings have played a huge role in shaping the person he has become today.
“I’ve had to explore different avenues with business because my degree was not something I could work with,” he says. “When you are in need, you start exploring and I started exploring entrepreneurship. It is a tough journey but if you believe in yourself, you can make it.”
Sudhir Choudhrie had to face family opposition when he decided to come to the UK and attend university. They wanted him to continue working at his father’s textile company after completing his bachelor’s degree, but Sudhir had other plans. He wanted to build his own business empire, not work at someone else’s.
“Nobody believed I could do it at that time. They wanted me to stay with my father’s business, but I always believed in myself. When you believe, doors open for you.”
