Hussain Sajwani is an Arabian real estate investor and hedge fund manager who has had some of the world’s most exotic hotels and resort homes built. He’s the founder and Chairman of DAMAC Properties based in Dubai, UAE and he’s formed some major partnerships throughout his career including with current US President Donald Trump. But what he still values highly is how his business roots got started in catering food across the world. While his catering business was just a step towards what he’s doing now, Sajwani has considered it an honor to serve some of clients he has in that business including the US Military during Desert Storm in the Gulf War. He even has a commemorative plaque that he keeps in his headquarters and even still has catering services among his other property functions that he says are highly important to delivering first class experience.
Before becoming the DAMAC owner, Hussain Sajwani worked for a major oil drilling and refinery company in Abu Dhabi known as ADNOC where he served as their contracts manager. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Washington and setup his catering business during this time. Sajwani became interested in real estate because both residential and commercial properties in the UAE were booming in the early 1990s, and he saw an opportunity to expand on the success of his catering services. He formally established DAMAC in 2002 though he had acquired Anwar Ceramic Tiles and started DICO Investments several years earlier. The first world class hotel property completion was Marina Terrace, and this was later followed by Versace-designed DAMAC Tower.
Hussain Sajwani first met Donald Trump around the time he broke into real estate, but the first big joint investment between the two men was the resort at the Tiger Woods golf course in 2011. Five years later not long after Trump had announced his bid for the US presidency, Sajwani helped complete the Trump World Golf Club. Sajwani considers himself to be a real close friend of the president and his family, and he’s visited him both at Trump Tower and Mar a Lago. He hopes that even though Trump is now focused in being America’s Commander-in-Chief, that his sons Eric and Donald Jr. will continue working on new deals between their organization and DAMAC.
